If you can find a clear piece of road and put your foot flat to the floor in a RS6, the results are quite dramatic.

Roadside objects are hurled aside, and the pavement seemingly narrows as the wailing, awesomely powerful V-10 in front of you �force-fed by two turbos � pulls relentlessly until you hit a gentle, artificial ceiling at an indicated 180 mph.

The Audi RS 6 Avant is not a plane, but it feels about as close to one as you can get on the street.

Producing 580 BHP and 480 lb/ft, this big estate car hits 60mph in just 4.6 seconds and hits the limiter at 180 mph. Derestricted it would certainly go over 200 mph.

All while this is happening, you are sat in one of the comfiest and best specced interiors on the market.

The car had new brake disks and pads all round last year, at a cost of almost £2000.
The tyres are all very recent and it had a full geometry setup last year.
