Overview

Introduced at the 2006 Geneva Motor Show, the 599 GTB Fiorano took its name from Ferrari's famous test track and was the latest in a succession of models named after places associated with the marque such as Modena and Maranello. Having favored the mid-engined layout for its 12-cylinder road cars from the mid-1970s to the late 1990m. In 1997 with the introductions of the 550 Maranello, the Italian manufacturer return to its tradition of building front-engined V-12 two-seater sports cars, resurrecting a line that had remained dormant since the demise of the 365 GTB/4 'Daytona' in 1974. The 599 was the latest in this noble line that stretched all the way back to the 250GT of the early 1960s. In designing the 599, Ferrari abandoned the tubular steel chassis of the 550/575, adopting a more advanced and lighter all-aluminum chassis of greatly increased stiffness. Styled by Pininfarina under the direction of Ferrari's Frank Stephenson, the 599 with its long bonnet, small cabin, raised haunches and aggressive stance seemed the very definition of the term 'sports car. The heart of any Ferrari is its engine, and the 599's, 6.0-litre V12 was a reworked version of that found in the Enzo, mated with the F1 derived paddle shift gearbox, the 599 is capable of changing gear in a mere 100 milliseconds.
Unveiled in March 2009 at the Geneva Motor Show, HGTE package, meaning Handling Gran Turismo Evoluzione, is an upgrade package for the 599 designed to improve the car's handling. It includes a modified set-up with stiffer springs and rear anti-roll bar as well as new calibration settings for the Delphi MagneRide magneto-rheological shock absorbers when the manettino is at its sportier settings. The ride height has also been lowered, resulting in a low centre of gravity. The car's electronic system were also changed. The gearbox's shifts were faster in high-performance settings, while new engine software provided improved response. The exhaust was modified to produce a more marked and thrilling sound under hard usage while still delivering just the right comfort levels at cruising speed. The exterior and interior were upgraded with more carbon fibre components and the car also included new 20-inch wheels. When new the HGTE cost an extra £14,000 to the standard car.

This particular example was suppled new by Graypaul, Nottingham and was fitted with the HGTE package from factory. Finished in iconic Rosso Corsa with all important Scuderia Shields, the beautiful split rims have been refinished in Grigio with a polished lip.
