The Ferrari 550 Barchetta Pininfarina is one of the most distinctive and exclusive front-engined V12 Ferraris of the modern era. Built to celebrate Pininfarina’s 70th anniversary, it was conceived as a pure, open-top interpretation of the 550 Maranello, a car already regarded as the rebirth of the classic Ferrari two-seat grand tourer. Unlike the coupe, the Barchetta was never intended to be a conventional convertible. Instead, it took inspiration from Ferrari’s historic roadsters, adopting the “barchetta” or “little boat” philosophy, emphasizing open-air motoring and raw, visceral connection to the road. Only 448 examples were produced worldwide, making it a highly sought-after collector’s piece from the moment of its unveiling at the Paris Motor Show in 2000.

At its heart, the 550 Barchetta retains the same naturally aspirated 5.5-litre V12 engine as the Maranello coupe, producing around 485 horsepower and 568 Nm of torque. Mated to a six-speed manual gearbox, the car could sprint from 0–62 mph in just over four seconds and reach a top speed close to 185 mph. The layout was classic Ferrari, with the V12 mounted up front and the gearbox at the rear in a transaxle configuration, delivering superb balance and poise. Its styling set it apart from the standard car, with a lower, more steeply raked windscreen, twin rollover hoops behind the seats, and a redesigned rear deck. The roof solution was intentionally rudimentary—more of an emergency soft-top than a permanent fixture—highlighting the Barchetta’s role as a car for fine weather driving and spirited journeys rather than all-season practicality.

The specific 2001 example offered by Amari Supercars embodies all the traits that make the 550 Barchetta so appealing. Finished in the elegant shade of Blu Sebring, it features a Charcoal leather interior with contrasting yellow stitching, Alcantara detailing across the rear shelf and dashboard, and carbon fibre trim elements including a carbon and leather steering wheel. It is number 164 of the 448 cars built and is particularly rare in being one of just 42 supplied new to the UK market. Registered in October 2001 and showing only 6,705 miles, this car has lived a pampered life, presenting in exceptional condition with a meticulous service history.

The history file with this Barchetta is extensive, documenting careful maintenance from new. The timing belts were changed in 2019, followed by an annual service in 2020, and most recently a comprehensive service including belts was carried out in 2022 by renowned Ferrari specialists DK Engineering. This attention ensures the car is mechanically as sound as it is visually striking, something crucial with Ferrari’s front-engined V12s, where preventative maintenance is essential to preserve reliability and value. The car is accompanied by its original toolkit, tonneau cover, touring hood, and Ferrari’s Certificate of Conformity, adding to its completeness and desirability.
